NB 14: Mai Chau Valleys 3 days/ 2 nights

Mai Chau is the heart of a beautiful valley that is a world away from the hustle of city. If you have 3 days to spare in Ninh Binh or Hanoi and the urge to escape to greener pastures, try the Mai Chau Valley in Hoa Binh province.

 

Located just 135 km northwest of Ninh Binh, Mai Chau valley has spectacular moutainous landscape dotted with house-on-stilts villages of the Thai ethnic group. If you like to discover life and culture of ethnic people, you can book a trekking tour through numberous villages, and spend two nights in a local H`mong and Thai`s and escort with a tour guide who knows well about the area.

The trekking trails traverse villages of Thai and H`mong minorities in Mai Chau valley offers a unique insight into life in remote hill-tribe settlement and numerous spectacular view.

 

Homestay at H`mong family and the Thai`s stilts-house: It is so fascinating to discover the ethnic people`s life-style by yourself while living in their hom,e, enjoying their festival of welcoming guests: dancing “xoe”- the graceful and traditional dance of the Thai`s Women and their sweet songs, drinking rice wine of H`mong as well.

DAY ONE:  (L - D)
Our E.S guide will meet you at your hotel in Ninh Binh area or Hanoi upon your request at around 8:30 am, and start to depart to Mai Chau valleys passing through several magnificent rice fields and ways, with long distance 135 – 145km ride/ 4 hrs to get to H`mong village of Sa Linh, we should relax and have lunch in Mai Chau valleys before starting point of 2 hours uphill trek to Hang Kia, visit the local exchange stalls to see how the people of this isolated village both do the selling and purchasing activities and make their living. Stay overnight in a H`mong family. (Trekking Distance: 8 km/2hours).

 

DAY TWO : (B - L - D)
We are so happy to say goodbye to the family after breakfast, and then take an one-hour uphill trek before going down to Mai Chau valley to the Van village of the Thai. Arriving in the early afternoon, you can take some rest before wandering around the scenic valley for photos opportunities and then we enjoy having lunch. In the afternoon we trek around the valley and learn more about the life and culture of the ethnic minorities and enjoy many spectacular views. Stay overnight in the Thai house-on-stilts to chat with the house-owners who are exceptionally hospitable, would be interesting as you can know more about the life and culture of the ethnic minority people. (Trekking Distance: 14 km/4 - 6hours).

 

DAY THREE : (B - L)
After breakfast, we take an easy walk for 2 hours to Sam Khoe, where you will be picked up by a van. Drive back to Lac village and have an hour wandering about the village before having lunch. In the afternoon, drive back to Ninh Binh along the way and make a stop to see the biggest hydropower dam in Vietnam. Arrive in Ninh Binh around 5.30pm. (Note: go to Hanoi upon your reqest!)
